Companies are facing challenging times trying to maintain their business operations, provide a comfortable, safe working environment and reduce costs. In a tough economy, businesses are doing what they can to make ends meet by making the most of what they have. Businesses are turning to energy rebate programs to help them to save energy and cut costs.
Buildings consume a great deal of energy and contribute their share in the carbon emissions problem in the U.S. Ironically, commercial energy efficiency is an easy, quick fix to help companies to combat this growing environmental problem. Part of the $346 million dollars from the American Recovery Act went to commercial energy rebate programs. States all over the country are putting the money to good use to help companies to go green.
Efficiency Maine is program of the Maine Public Utilities Commission that has helped hundreds of businesses to buy and install electric energy-efficient measures. These efficiency efforts have saved Maine businesses literally millions of dollars in energy costs per year. The Efficiency Maine Business Program offers very generous incentives for businesses to replace or install energy saving equipment in their facilities.
Local governments, schools, farms and the like can be rewarded for using energy efficiencies, such as lighting, HVAC and heat pumps. Prescriptive incentives allow for a generous maximum incentive of $300,000 for eligible technologies, such as high bay lighting fixtures. In addition, Energy Maine offers custom incentives of up to 35% for the total cost of retrofit projects and up to 75% of the incremental cost of using energy-saving equipment over less efficient measures.
Certain projects must be pre-approved, with the exclusion of lighting and refrigeration projects that are under $1,000 as well as agriculture and motor applications. Maine’s non-residential customers can do their part to save money and energy resources when they utilize energy rebate programs. Energy efficiency has both current and long term dividends that businesses can bank on.
Commercial rebate programs take their customers by the hand and help them navigate through the process of switching to energy-efficiencies. New and existing businesses all over the country are being coaxed to switch from older, less-energy efficient lighting to fluorescent high bay equipment. Installing equipment is a costly venture, but the expense can be relieved somewhat through rebate programs that help offset the cost.
The kind gesture of giving a helping hand never seems to grow old. Commercial companies can improve their operational costs when they install new and improved energy efficiencies. Energy-efficient, fluorescent high bay lighting uses less energy and has an improved color output. Less energy consumption means more money saved for commercial and industrial businesses.
Rhode Island’s National Grid Electric Energy Efficiency Incentive Programs give commercial customers plenty of reasons to switch the energy-saving measures. Industries such as schools, local government and commercial businesses can receive generous rewards for small, medium and large commercial customers. The program focuses on two basic types of buildings: new construction and existing facilities.
The Design 2000 Plus Program offers commercial customers not only technical assistance and energy tips, but financial incentives for schools and new construction projects to include energy-efficient equipment in their building efforts. Commercial customers can get up to 75% of the incremental costs back for installing energy equipment, such as fluorescent high bay lighting.
The Energy Initiative Program is geared toward improving existing equipment. Commercial customers can receive up to 40-50% of the total project cost. In addition,
small businesses can get an extra boost with an incentive for up to 80% of their equipment installation cost. The amounts of each technology vary according to their type and energy efficiency.
