Hawaii Utility Company Gives Incentives To Businesses For Going Green

Many commercial customers across the country are going green by installing green equipment in their facilities. The national push for green energy usage is showing people all of the benefits of sustainable energy. Technology that has built-in energy reduction features promotes environmental health and cuts down on energy costs.

Lighting is one technology that commercial facilities focus on when trying to cut back on energy consumption because it takes up at least 20% of the energy bill. Businesses are looking for lighting measures that have high quality output, yet use less energy. When companies upgrade their lighting equipment to energy efficient lighting measures, they can save about a tenth of their energy bill.

Reduced operating costs on lighting and other technologies can help to improve a company’s bottom line and the overall work environment. Quality lighting helps employees to do their jobs better, which directly affects productivity in the workplace. Companies that invest in energy efficient technology can reduce their energy costs and promote environment conservation.

Hawaii’s Kauai Island Utility Cooperative offers utility rebates to its commercial customers for using green energy equipment. Commercial customers of all rate classes are eligible to receive these rebates through Kauai Island Utility’s Commercial Wise Commercial Energy Efficiency Program. Customers interested in the rebate program must fill out a survey provided by a KIUC representative.

Upon completion of Kauai Utility’s survey, the utility company will give the commercial business a report that points out energy efficiency equipment that is eligible for rebates. Once the installation is complete, then KIUC comes to the facility to verify that everything is in order. After the energy efficiency measures have been inspected and approved, then the business is given an energy efficiency rebate for upgrading to energy-saving equipment and going green.
