One of the hottest trends in our country is the green energy niche that is infiltrating our culture. The national push to go green is helping people to use energy more wisely and effectively. Last year, President Obama stated that energy efficient technologies for homes and businesses won’t just significantly reduce our energy demands, but will also put more money back in our pockets. These sustainable energy efforts will help to take our nation to the next level in self-sufficiency and resourcefulness.
Bigger. Stronger. Faster. We can rebuild it. We have the technology. People who have been around for a few decades, remember these familiar words from the seemingly invincible Six Million Dollar Man from the hit 70’s television series of the same name. I am not talking about creating superheroes, but building strong, efficient, energy resources that give you more for less and are built to last.
Duke Energy is doing their part to go green with Indiana’s Small Commercial and Industrial Rebate Program. Indiana’s commercial and industrial customers are eligible for energy efficient equipment rebates for technologies with a demand of 500 kW or less. These energy-saving resources can be installed in new buildings and well as existing ones, but many of the lighting products have rebates exclusively for retrofits. Customers can submit rebate applications within 90 days after the equipment is installed and functioning.
Indiana commercial customers can install their own equipment, but it must have a second look by Duke Energy before they can receive their rebate, which is a maximum of $50,000 per facility each year. The Duke Energy website gives a comprehensive list of all eligible technologies along with their required efficiency levels, types and sizes. Interested commercial customers can find more detailed information on Duke Energy’s website at www.duke-energy.com/indiana.
The go green campaign is at the forefront of our current economic stability efforts. Indiana industries, including churches, healthcare facilities and fast food restaurants can cash in on these useful rebates for their buildings. They can work in concert with other states around the country to do their part to use sustainable energy to preserve resources and save money.
