“Desperate times call for desperate measures,” as the old expression goes. The current economic crunch has Americans tightening their belts at every turn as we face our national economic crisis together. Last summer, the Obama administration invested a whopping $346 million dollars to expand our commitment to energy efficient technologies for both residential and non-residential buildings. Government rebates for green energy are being offered nationwide to promote this energy-saving initiative.
The government is encouraging ways to save money and reduce energy by rewarding efforts to invest in and use energy efficient technologies, such as high bay fixtures. Each small step that we take to use energy in wiser manner will go a long way to help reduce energy costs and promote a cleaner environment. Americans can ease the squeeze on their pocketbooks with cost cutting, energy-saving measures.
The Kansas City Power and Light Company or (KCP&L) provides financial rebates to award their commercial and industrial customers to increase energy saving efforts in their buildings. The Kansas-based utility company rewards their commercial customers with custom rebates for using energy-saving equipment in new and existing facilities. All of the custom rebates offered must be evaluated before it is installed to make sure it passes the Societal Benefit/Cost Test with a result of 1.0 or higher. This test ensures that the reduced energy consumption saved by more efficient technologies outweighs the cost rewarded for those cost-cutting efforts.
The maximum rebate varies by equipment and by state. Lighting technologies vary in rebate amount and custom rebates are figured out as a buy down to a two-year payback or half of the incremental cost. The Kansas utility company also offers prescriptive rebates for a number of pre-qualified technologies, including lighting and air conditioning. The prescriptive rebates are only allocated for small business customers who use the KCP&L Small General Service rate.
There is complete information about custom and prescriptive rebates at www.kcpl.com.
Kansas City Power and Light Energy conservation measures help promote the nation’s green energy initiatives that will give us a good economic push in the right direction. With these efforts and other cost-cutting measures, government rebates for green energy can go a long way.
