Nebraska Supports Energy Efficiency Through Energy Rebate Programs

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was a huge push towards national energy efficiency efforts. The overall idea is to reduce our national dependence on foreign energy sources and make a concerted effort to pour our resources into our own sources of renewable and sustainable energy. These efforts will significantly improve our environment and boost our economy through reduced energy costs. There are energy rebate programs across the country to encourage people to get on board with these energy efficiency efforts.

Residents are being offered the opportunity to trade in less energy efficient appliances for more energy-saving, environmentally friendly ones. Businesses are supporting the cause by either upgrading their current equipment or installing new energy-saving equipment in their facilities. Lighting equipment in particular consumes a sizable amount of energy in both residential and commercial facilities—about 40% worth.

Nebraska’s Lincoln Electric System Utility Program offers the Commercial Energy Efficiency Rebate Program for its commercial and industrial customers to switch to more energy efficient equipment. The eligible technologies include lighting and chillers and are offered to both the commercial and industrial sectors. The program features the Commercial and Industrial Lighting Retrofit Program, which offers a number of incentives to businesses who install energy efficient lighting in their buildings.

Commercial customers can receive attractive financial incentives for implementing energy rebate programs in their facilities, which are available on both a prescriptive and custom basis. Customers who reduce energy consumption through energy efficient lighting measures using the LES program can receive up to $75 per fixture for the lighting fixtures at their facilities. The maximum incentive for lighting retrofits is $7500 and these incentives are available on a first-come, first serve basis. More detailed information about eligibility and program information can be found on the Lincoln Electric System website at: www.les.com.
