Many companies are being encouraged to go green these days, but need a helping hand to get the ball rolling. Energy efficiency not only helps the work environment, but also helps the bottom line. When commercial equipment consumes less energy, commercial customers can save money and offset operating costs.
Government rebate programs are being made readily available and simple to implement to make the step to go green easier. Utility companies and energy companies offer attractive incentives for customers to make their commercial buildings energy-efficient and cost effective. Implementing green measures for your company can help you save money with energy-saving measures.
New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program will help commercial and industrial businesses to build a new structure with green energy or renovate an existing building. NJCEP’s comprehensive Smart Start Building Program helps customers switching to energy efficient measures with technical assistance and financial incentives. The Smart Start Building Program is available for several technologies, including lighting, light controls and thermostats.
The rebate amount varies according to technology, but the maximum incentive is up to 80% of the project costs. In order to qualify for the program, businesses must be an electric or gas customer from one of New Jersey’s seven regulated electric and gas companies, which are: Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power and Light, Rockland Electric Company, New Jersey Natural Gas, Elizabethtown Gas, PSE& G and South Jersey Gas.
The Smart Start Direct Install Program helps customers to go green by offering turn key, energy-saving assistance for customers with peak electricity demands of 200 kilowatts or less over the preceding 12 months. All projects must be pre-approved before the project starts or the energy efficient technologies are purchased. If the project is approved, all work must be performed with a participating contractor and approved upon completion before cash incentives are dispensed.
