North Carolina Non-Residential Customers Get Saving Incentives with Green Energy Rebate Programs

Years ago, school students across the nation proudly sang the patriotic song “This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land.” This land IS yours and mine, and national renewable energy efforts are spreading across the country to encourage everyone to take part in energy conservation. Many schools and businesses want to jump on the bandwagon but need “how to” information to get them going in the right direction. Green energy rebate programs are offered nationwide to give local schools and businesses incentives to “go green.”

North Carolina offers the Duke Energy-Non Residential Energy Efficient Rebate Program, which is available for commercial, industrial and educational industries. This utility rebate program offers incentives to encourage non-residential institutions to use energy-saving equipment in their facilities. This program is available for all Duke Energy non-residential customers, except those who do not use the Energy Rider Program. All equipment must meet certain energy efficient standards that are spelled out on the Application Process and Contact Information page of the application.

The Duke Energy Efficient Program Green Energy Rebate Programs are not only energy efficient, but cost effective. Interested customers can find step-by-step information about their eligibility, the application process and contact information on the official Duke Energy website. There are specific applications on the website that pertain to each specific energy-saving equipment incentive being offered. Customers need to submit a completed application within 60 days after their energy-saving equipment is installed and in use.

In addition to the Duke Energy program, North Carolina also offers the PSNC Energy-Commercial High Efficiency Program. To qualify, small commercial businesses need to qualify on Rate 125 and meet the U.S.Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification or its equivalent. Commercial constituents that use equivalent means must have a professional registered engineer verify that the building does not use any more energy per square foot than is specified within LEED limits.  Facilities that qualify are assigned under Rate 127, which gives both LEED certified customers and those with its equivalent $0.05 discount per therm.

More detailed information about both programs is available at www.dsireusa.org, which is the official Database of Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency website. Green Energy Rebate Programs are very useful resources that reward commercial customers for doing their part to promote green energy. The last line of the chorus of “This Land Is Your Land” states: “This land was made for you and me.”  Energy efficiency efforts help us all to be good stewards of our land and its resources.
