Green energy is one of the leading sources of energy that is being promoted and used in our country today. The push for sustainable energy use in building facilities is necessary to help reduce energy consumption in many large commercial businesses. States across the country are offering government rebates for green energy usage in several sectors, including commercial, industrial, agricultural and state government.
Going green in building facilities helps both environmental and money saving efforts for businesses. Energy efficient technologies, including furnaces, boilers and lighting are eligible for state cash incentives for installing green equipment. Many businesses are choosing to upgrade their business equipment to energy-saving lighting measures to help reduce the massive energy costs of lighting commercial buildings.
Energy Trust of Oregon is a state rebate program that offers government rebates for green energy. The Oregon-based company offers energy rebate incentives to commercial, industrial and other sectors that switch to energy efficiencies in their buildings. The prescriptive program offers rebates for business retrofit projects that upgrade such measures as lighting in their facilities.
Lighting fixtures can receive from $2 to $75 for energy efficient lighting fixtures that are used for business retrofit projects. Companies who want to apply for this rebate offer must have their project pre-approved before buying or installing any energy efficiencies. Businesses can get more specific information about requirements and qualifications for specific technologies at: www.energytrust.org.
Technologies that are not covered through the prescriptive program may still qualify under the custom rebate program. Under this program, lighting equipment energy savings must be at least 25% of the current energy use and 10% for the remaining equipment choices. Lighting projects that are approved under the custom plan can receive incentives for up to 35% of the total approved cost but no more than 17 cents per annual kilowatt-hours (kWh) saved. Prescriptive and custom government rebates for green energy for existing buildings cannot exceed $500,000 per site for each year.
