Replace the Old With the New Using T-5 Fluorescent Lighting

Many commercial buildings all over the country are upgrading their lighting equipment to more energy efficient options. The standard T12 fluorescent systems that were a mainstay for many years in the commercial industry are being upgrading to newer technologies, such as T-5 fluorescents. The newer options are higher quality, have better color output and are more energy efficient.

T-5 fluorescents are among the leading light sources used in non-residential buildings. When a lot of lights are on for a long time, a mass amount of energy is expended. In these tough economic times, businesses want to make the most of their time and resources to run their businesses in the most cost-effective manner. States are giving businesses a helping hand to use their resources more effectively by offering incentives for their energy saving efforts.

The Wyoming State Incentive Program offers utility grants for energy-saving measures through the Rocky Mountain Power’s Energy FinAnswer Program. This rebate covers comprehensive measures, including lighting and heating for commercial, industrial sectors. These incentives also include new facilities that will install energy-efficient equipment in their buildings.

The goal of these incentives is to help new and existing commercial customers to make their current equipment more efficient and build new facilities that are a great deal more efficient than code. Existing facilities less than 20,000 square feet per electric meter can secure rebates for their energy saving technologies. Commercial businesses can upgrade their lighting equipment and get cash back for switching to high bay T-5 fluorescent lighting.

Interested customers need to first contact Wyoming’s Rocky Mountain Power before they start their project to have existing equipment verified and sign a letter of intent for their prospective energy efficiency project. A contract must then be signed before the equipment is ordered and the project begins.  After lighting is installed, customers submit a documented invoice, the job is inspected and the rebate check will be on its way within 45 days of completion. The incentive amount is $0.12/kwh annual energy savings plus $50/KW average monthly on-peak demand savings.
