State Energy Rebate Programs Encourage Commercial Energy Efficiency

When businesses operate their equipment day in and day out, a generous amount of energy is consumed on a regular basis. Commercial equipment such as heat pumps, air conditioners and lighting, cost a lot to run and maintain. Businesses can get cash back for taking advantage of energy rebate programs offered through many state utility companies.

Energy conservation efforts have really gained a prominent place in the forefront of peoples’ minds in the past several years. The increase in green energy usage has encouraged people to put their stamp on the energy efficiency effort. Businesses that reduce the energy costs in their facilities help to improve the work environment and cut energy costs.

Massachusetts features several rebate programs, including the Cape Light Compact Commercial, Industrial and Municipal Buildings Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. State rebate programs give businesses a financial reward for switching to equipment that uses less energy. Lighting and other technologies are eligible for cash back when using energy efficient measures in their facilities.

Cape Light Compact offers cash incentives to commercial businesses for retrofit projects as well as new ones for using energy- saving technology in their facilities. Customers in existing buildings can receive rebates for using custom lighting to promote energy efficiency. Lighting for new construction projects are eligible for $0.40 or $0.80 per watt saved. Lighting fixtures and controls can receive $10 – $75, according to the type of lighting measure.

State rebate programs provide companies with the means to install energy efficient equipment. The cash incentives encourage businesses to utilize energy-efficient measures in their new and existing buildings. Cape Light Compact (CLC) requires that those seeking rebates must use company-hired consultants and pre-approved vendors for their projects. In addition, customers must get their project approved before they begin and need to complete the project within 180 days after receiving a pre-approval letter unless a waiver is granted.
