Energy rebate programs are special incentives given to commercial businesses to encourage them to switch to energy saving equipment. These incentives have the dual benefit of helping businesses save money and improve the environment. The cost of operating air conditioners, heating equipment and lighting is enormous, especially for larger facilities. The economy has put a tighter squeeze on many budgets these days and companies are looking for a ways to cut back and conserve their resources.
There are energy rebate programs all over the country, thanks to President Obama’s multi-million dollar American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These funds have been filtered down to the states to promote residential and commercial energy efficiency, as well as other initiatives. Energy efficient technologies are an effective way for commercial businesses to maximize their operating costs and improve their bottom line.
The state of Washington has energy rebate programs, such as the Avista Utility’s Commercial Lighting Energy Efficiency Program. This rebate program has incentives for commercial lighting equipment, including T5 fluorescents and high bay fixtures. These lighting efficiency upgrades help to improve lighting quality, conserve energy and lower maintenance costs. Avista’s Energy Rebate Program is available for their existing non-residential customers who choose to install energy efficient equipment in their facilities. Rebates are only being offered for equipment that has been installed after March 1, 2008.
Avista’s lighting rebate amount varies according to the type of lighting equipment being used, but it ranges from $3 to $460.00. Interested commercial customers must submit copies of their dated invoices with an itemized list of the new equipment purchased and labor charges. The incentive agreement must be returned within 90 days of installing the equipment.
The energy efficient equipment upgrade needs to be bought and installed before the rebate is made. The energy rebate incentive can’t be more than the cost of the invoice itself, so this program must not be combined with any other Avista lighting incentive programs. Avista’s Commercial Lighting Incentive Agreement is available on their website at: www.avistautilities.com.
